SatSYNC for Mac Features

SatSYNC is also available for Windows.

Mac users have a different version of SatSYNC. This will need to be used in conjunction with the File Converter application. Both applications therefore will need to be installed on your Mac.

SatSYNC for Mac should be used to transfer .map files and Raw.gpx from the device to the Mac. Once the files are on the Mac, the File Converter should be used to convert .map files to third-party formats so that these files can be viewed in Google Earth or other mapping applications. Use the File Converter to convert third party file formats to the .map format and then use SatSYNC to transfer the .map files to the device.

Minor limitations of SatSYNC for Mac:

  • Folder management: there is no support for viewing or managing sub folders in the Internal Storage or SD Card

  • Built-in File Conversions:
    • Inbound: there is only support for GPX routes or tracks
    • Outbound: there is only support for converting Satmap routes to GPX routes

Enhancements provided by the File Converter for Mac:

  • The following file formats can be converted to the Satmap .MAP format:
    • Geocaching.com LOC (POIs)
    • Geocaching.com GPX (POIs)
    • Geocaching.com Pocket Query ZIP (POIs)
    • LOC (POIs)
    • GPX (routes and POIs)
    • JPG (geo-tagged and non-geo-tagged photos)
    • KML/KMZ (routes, AOIs, LOIs and POIs)
    • Tab delimited text files (routes, AOIs, IOIs, LOIs, POIs)
    • XOL (routes)
  • Satmap .MAP files can be converted to the following formats:
    • GPX (for viewing routes on mapping and route planning applications)
    • KMZ (for viewing routes, AOIs, LOIs or POIs in Google Earth)
    • Tab delimited text files (for managing routes, AOIs, IOIs, LOIs or POIs in spreadsheet programs such as MS Excel)

We are currently working on a version of SatSYNC for Mac with the full functionality and apologize for any inconvenience caused.
